3rd Annual Bikes for Kids Charity Ride
Come and support Bikes for Kids 3rd Annual Charity Ride and enjoy a morning of bicycle riding fun!
Bikes for Kids is fortunate to be run and supported by community volunteers. Many of our volunteers enjoy the camaraderie of the shared mission and appreciate the welcoming, supportive and flexible environment of the Bikes for Kids Wheelhouse.
There are many ways to get involved.
Thursday is currently our big bike repair day. If you are retired or have Thursdays available, why not come down to the Wheelhouse and help get some bikes ready to send out? This is where it all happens! A little experience is always welcome, but if you are new to bike repair, that’s not a problem! We will be happy to show you the ropes on some basic youth bikes and progress from there.
9–12 Thursday mornings
6–8 on Thursday evenings
We have a wonderful group of volunteers in each session. Just drop in and we’ll get you started. Hope to see you soon.
Help us get the word out about Bikes for Kids by riding in a local parade. It’s a lot of fun. This is when we take some of the more unique bikes that have been donated out for a spin—banana seat, antique bikes, The Wizzer and more recently, the Atomic Tricycle, with the capability of providing music louder than the combined efforts of all other marching units in a parade. Sometimes we will have a bike decorating party at the Wheelhouse in preparation. The more the merrier. All are welcome. Parades we participate in are:
Does your group or company participate in an annual day of service giving back to the community. Consider sending a crew the Bikes for Kids Wheelhouse. We promise to provide great company and lunch.
Bikes for Kids 3rd Annual Charity Ride on Saturday tbd, May 2019 is our big event. It is fun and gets a lot of visibility. There are many small and big ways you can help. The “to do list” starts: solicit sponsors, hang posters, stake signs, form a team to ride, help with set-up or registration, host a break tent, cheer for the riders coming and going… Whatever your level of interest, we can find you a task.
Our annual BFK Newsletter and appeal is published in November. Although it is mailed to all Friends of BFK it is nice to leave a few copies throughout the towns—barber shops, town halls, bike shops, libraries – wherever you think someone would appreciate a fun read about a great group.
Set a date and spread the word that you are collecting gently used bicycles of all sizes and styles. Encourage people to free up valuable garage or barn floor space while making a difference in someone’s life and being green. It’s a win/win.
